The new permanent exhibition introduces solar energy as a source of power that holds a firm place in today’s world — in industry, households, and transportation.
Solar panels on rooftops of homes and industrial buildings, ground-based solar farms, solar car races across the globe, and solar panels on spacecraft — these are no longer scenes from science fiction but a part of our everyday reality.
What is solar energy, how is it generated, and how does it work? What materials are needed to produce and operate solar panels? What did solar panels look like in the past, and when were they first developed? How and where is solar energy used today? What should we know about solar energy in our daily lives? These are the central themes explored in the new exhibition.
The exhibition also presents the story of Solaride — Estonia’s first solar-powered car. Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, this pioneering vehicle was completed at the end of 2021 by a team of young Estonians and tested in solar car competitions in Morocco. Solaride received a special award from the Dutch solar car manufacturer Lightyear for its outstanding team spirit and determination.
As part of the exhibition, visitors can see the legendary Solaride car up close and even step into the role of a solar car pilot.
