Grand Space Day 2026 invites you to discover the secrets of the universe
On April 25, 2026, from 12:00 to 19:00, the Energy Discovery Centre will host a family event, Great Space Day 2026, bringing together key players from Estonia’s space sector to take visitors on an exciting journey into the vastness of space.
The event is primarily aimed at families with children and schools, offering a diverse program where science is combined with engaging hands-on activities. According to the CEO of the Energy Discovery Centre, Darja Saar, Great Space Day is a great opportunity to spark young people’s interest in engineering and technology.
“Recently, we followed with great interest the successful progress of the Artemis mission toward the Moon. It made many people wonder: is Estonia a space nation? And could today’s young people become future astronauts or space engineers? Although it may seem like science fiction at first glance, the answer is actually yes—Estonia is already a space nation. We have several companies and initiatives actively contributing to the development of space technology and international projects. This is exactly the world we want to bring closer to young people, so they can see opportunities, find inspiration, and shape a clear direction and path for their future,” Saar explains. She adds that Great Space Day is taking place for the second time, and this year’s program is inspired by last year’s successful event, offering visitors an even more diverse selection of activities.
Throughout the day, visitors can participate in various workshops and learn more about Estonia’s space sector. A special highlight is the opportunity to explore the legendary lunar rover, try out its Moon simulators, and even test driving it themselves. Together with TalTech students, participants will build and launch hydrogen rockets, while a drone football tournament will add excitement—visitors can cheer or try piloting drones themselves.
Among other activities, participants can meet the Estronauts and hear about their experiences on a parabolic flight in Luxembourg, take part in workshops led by the Student Satellite and the University of Tartu Observatory teams, and test themselves in astronaut mini-missions organized by the ESERO Estonia team. In addition, families can create their own Mars colony, explore planets and galaxies with Energy Discovery Centre planetarist Rauno Pilvik and People’s Observatory leader Vladimir Goman, and enjoy special planetarium shows.
Families are encouraged to attend in space-themed costumes—let your imagination run wild and dress up as astronauts, aliens, future space explorers, or even Men in Black characters. The best and most creative costumes will be awarded. For the youngest visitors, there will be a slime workshop, space-themed face painting, and a Loco Rolls pancake pop-up café.
Great Space Day 2026 is organized in cooperation with ESERO Estonia, KuupKulgur, Student Satellite, TiVo, TalTech, Estonia Searches for Estronaut, KVARK, Drone Football League, Saue HobiZoma Club, Domino’s Pizza, and the People’s Observatory. The event is supported by the City of Tallinn.
The Energy Discovery Centre is a modern science center for children and young people, located in the building of Tallinn’s first power plant (operating from 1913 to 1979). It offers a comprehensive approach based on the principle of “all science education services in one place.” The centre combines learning with hands-on experiences, offering city camps, hobby groups, interactive exhibitions, science theatre, planetarium films and shows, and science sessions for both schools and companies.
