On 25 August, the Science Garden at the Energy Discovery Centre in Tallinn will host a practical and educational afternoon combining handicrafts, gardening and botany. During the event, participants will learn how to collect and store seeds, try botanical embroidery and attend a lecture on rare plants that can be grown in Estonia.

The event begins at 4:00 PM with a workshop on seed collection and storage, led by Olga Solopova. The workshop will introduce various methods for preserving the germination capacity of seeds until the next growing season. Participants will learn how to properly collect, ferment, dry and store seeds.

At 4:45 PM, Polina Ljaseva will lead the creative workshop “Botanical Embroidery on Fruit and Vegetable Storage Bags”. Participants will decorate cotton bags with minimalist botanical motifs and learn a few simple embroidery stitches. The workshop is also suitable for those with no previous embroidery experience.

Following the practical activities, participants will have the opportunity to attend the scientific lecture “Rare Plants That Can Be Grown in Estonia”, presented by Anton Küünal. The lecture will introduce exotic and lesser-known plants that can successfully grow in Estonia’s climate. At the end of the event, all participants will receive seeds or seedlings of rare plants as a gift.

According to Polina Ljaševa, Project Manager of the Energy Discovery Centre’s Science Garden, the aim is to bring together people interested in nature and sustainable gardening. The event offers an opportunity to gain new knowledge, learn practical skills and find inspiration both for creating a home garden and for creative handicraft projects.
